What does Rainforest Alliance require?
The Rainforest Alliance 2020 Sustainable Agriculture Standard requires certified farms to stop deforestation, protect biodiversity and water, manage pests with integrated pest management rather than blanket spraying, and meet worker-welfare requirements including an assess-and-address system for child labor risk. It is a genuine farm-level standard with a real inspector.

Authorized certification bodies audit farms on an annual cycle. The honest caveat — the one the seal itself will not tell you — is that rigor varies by region and commodity. Some certified farms operate well above the standard; others sit at its floor. The frog is real, just not uniform.
What does Rainforest Alliance not cover?
It is not an organic standard: synthetic pesticides remain permitted within the standard's rules. Unlike Fair Trade, it does not guarantee a minimum price to producers. And it says nothing about packaging, carbon, or what happens after the farm gate.
